Earlier plans for the stadium, whichh will hold its firsr Gophers football gameon 12, would have allowed alcohol sales in the more expensiv e premium seating, but not in general seating. Bruininks’ move comesd after the Minnesota Legislatureand Gov. Tim Pawlenty made a new law requirinhg thatall of-age game attendees have equal access to alcohol. “Unfortunately, this new legislatiom leaves us with onlytwo options: to becomd the only Big Ten campusa in the country to sell alcohool throughout its football stadium, or to not sell alcohol at said Bruininks in a “Our values do not changw even if our plans must.

The university acknowledged the alcohokl ban will have somefinancial impact, but it has not yet assessefd how much.
