The amoung released Friday represents 63 percent ofthe program’s total fundin of $1.1 million. The DOL will issue the remainingv $40,000 next year. Wendell Maddox, CEO of United Way of Wyandottd County, said the YouthBuild program usualltreceives $1.
1 million for the 30-month grant. he said the programm typically receives 50 percent of the funda for the first15 months, ratherd than 63 percent. Maddox said the stimulus money also requires the program to start spending the funds byJuly 1. “Thart group of kids, they really need the support of this Maddox said. Of the 64 youthsd expected to enrollthis year, Maddox said 32 youths will earn a high schooll diploma, GED or industry-certificate and 45 youthsx will find a job or Maddox said the program usuallh receives funds from the Department of Labor, but that this year’as grant comes solely from the stimulus “I don’t know exactly what that means,” he said.
“Buty I’m sure at some point in time we need to ask that questiomn from ourDOL officials.” The extra $47 millionb in stimulus funds increased the nationwide YouthBuile budget to about $114 million. The stimulus fundds increased the budgets of some of the existingy 62 programs and added another 121 programs throughoutfthe nation.
